How We Build Purposeful Activity
We believe transparency builds trust. Here's exactly how this platform works.
We use AI. Here's exactly how.
Purposeful Activity is built by a small team, not a large content studio. To deliver the volume and variety of resources activity and recreation professionals need — across every care setting — we use AI as our primary content generation tool.
That means the activity plans, documentation templates, bingo cards, program guides, calendar content, and programming tools on this platform are AI-generated — not written by hand by a team of practitioners.
The AI doesn't decide what matters. We do.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements across care settings including CMS F-tags, state survey standards, and person-centered care principles
- Understanding of what activity and recreation professionals face day to day — short staffing, documentation pressure, diverse resident populations, and limited budgets
- Programming knowledge across cognitive levels, care settings, and activity categories
- Ongoing feedback from directors and care teams using the platform
- A commitment to dignity-first, person-centered programming language across all ability levels
AI writes the content. We decide what it should say, who it's for, and whether it's good enough to publish.
What AI actually is — and isn't
AI is not a mind reader, a decision maker, or a replacement for human judgment. It is a sophisticated language and pattern recognition tool that produces output based on what it is asked — nothing more, nothing less. The quality of what it generates depends entirely on the knowledge, structure, and intention behind the prompts it receives.
Most people use AI every single day without thinking about it:
Everyday AI
- Your smartphone autocorrects your spelling and predicts your next word
- Gmail suggests how to finish your sentences
- Google completes your search before you finish typing
- Spotify and Netflix recommend what to watch or listen to next
- Your GPS recalculates your route in real time based on traffic
- Face ID unlocks your phone by recognizing your face
Healthcare AI
- Radiologists use AI to detect tumors in imaging scans
- Hospitals use AI to predict patient deterioration before symptoms appear
- Pharmacists use AI to flag dangerous drug interactions
- EHR systems use AI to surface care gaps and documentation needs
- Surgical robots use AI-assisted precision during complex procedures
None of these replaced the human using them. They made the human faster, more informed, and better equipped to make decisions.
In each of these cases, AI does not replace the clinician. It gives them better information, faster. The professional still decides.
Purposeful Activity works the same way. AI generates the activity plan, the documentation template, the bingo card, the calendar. You — the activity director, the recreation therapist, the care professional — decide what fits your residents, your setting, and your care philosophy.
The tool is only as good as the person using it. And the person using it is you.
What this means for you
- The content is not a substitute for your professional judgment
- It won't always reflect the specific culture, population, or preferences of your community
- It is a starting point — not a finished product
- You should adapt everything to your residents, your setting, your care plan, and your facility policy
Why we're telling you this
Because you deserve to know what you're paying for. A tool that saves you time is only valuable if you trust it. And trust starts with honesty.
If something feels off, generic, or wrong for your setting — tell us. That feedback is how we get better.
Questions
Q: Is the content reviewed by humans?
Every resource is shaped by prompts and structures built around regulatory requirements, person-centered care principles, and real activity programming knowledge across care settings. We review what gets published but we do not manually rewrite every piece of AI output.
Q: Can I trust it for surveys and compliance?
Our documentation templates and activity content are designed to align with applicable regulatory standards for your care setting. However, your professional judgment and facility-specific context always takes precedence. Adapt everything to your residents and your facility policy.
Q: Does it work for my care setting?
Yes — Purposeful Activity is built for SNF/NF, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Independent Living, and Adult Day settings. Content and tools adapt based on your care setting.
Q: Will you always use AI?
Yes, and we will always be transparent about it. As AI improves, the quality improves with it. We will continue to be clear about what is and is not AI-generated.
